Catch The Little Foxes... "Catch the little foxes that ruin the vineyards; for our vines have tender grapes." Song of Songs 2:15 Look within, each one of you. Examine your own hearts. Do you see there any habit which you know is wrong in the sight of God? If you do, resolve at once to cast it off!  Resolve at once, by God's help, to break off every known sin, however small. Nothing darkens the eyes of the mind so much, and deadens the conscience so surely--as an allowed sin. It may be a little one--but it is not any less dangerous.  A small leak will sink a great ship.  A small spark will kindle a great fire.  In the same way, a little allowed sin will ruin an immortal soul.  Take my advice, and never spare a little sin! Israel was commanded to kill every Canaanite, both great and small. "Develop your listing power. It is because the bible has instructed us to listen more than to speak. Be a good hearer.  C onsider carefully how you listen!"  Luke  8:18   We learn from this verse,  the great importance of right hearing.   The words of our Lord Jesus Christ ought to impress that lesson deeply on our hearts. He says, " C onsider carefully how you listen! " The degree of benefit which men receive from all the  means of grace --depends entirely on the  way  in which they use them.  Private PRAYER lies at the very foundation of religion--yet the mere formal repetition of a set of words, when "the heart is far away"--does good to no man's soul.  Reading the BIBLE is essential to the attainment of sound Christian knowledge--yet the mere formal reading of so many chapters as a task and duty, with out a humble desire to be taught of God, is little better than a waste of time.  Just as it is with...

The Bible is God's word. It is filled with the divine instructions. so let none approach to the pages of the bible without considering its valuable commands and thoughts. In other words, never let us read any portion of God's Word without looking up for divine teaching! "Open my eyes--that I may behold wondrous things out of Your law." I fear that the standard of holy living is lower just now than it has been for many years. Professing Christians seem unable to realize that there is anything inconsistent in ball-going, theater-going, gambling, card-playing, excessive dressing, novel-reading, and an incessant round of gaiety and amusements! The distance and gap between the church and the world has completely erased. In other word, the line between the Church and the world seems completely effaced and forgotten! It is not giving us permission to live a life of lawlessness. some people who believe the doctrines of sovereign grace often act inconsistently with their own principles--when they are angry at the defects of others. For example, a company of travelers fall into a pit; one of them gets a passerby to draw him out. Now he should not be angry with the rest for falling in; nor because they are not yet out, as he is. He did not pull himself out. Instead, therefore, of reproaching them--he should show them pity. Regeneration Regeneration  is  that miracle of Divine grace wrought in the soul  . . .      which enlists the affections Godward,    which brings the human will into subjection to the Divine,   and which produces a real and radical change in the life.  That change is from worldliness--to godliness; from disobedience--to obedience.  At the new birth, the love of God is shed abroad in the heart by the Holy Spirit, and that love is manifested in a dominating longing and sincere purpose to please in all things, the One who has plucked me as a brand from the burning. There is a greater difference between the genuine Christian and the deceived professing Christian--than there is between a living man and a corpse. None need remain in doubt, if they will honestly measure themselves by the Holy Word of God. Ah, dear readers, the test is  fruit!  Not knowledge, not boastings, not orthodoxy, not joy--but fruit; and such "fruit" ...

His mercy is a boundless, fathomless, endless ocean! "You, O Lord, are good, and ready to forgive--and abundant in mercy to all who call upon You." Psalm 86:5 What a beautiful representation of God is this! How comforting, at the close of another day's cares and troubles, sorrows and sins--to be reminded that our "God is good," and especially that He is "ready to forgive"--ready to pardon all the faults and follies of this day--ready to pass them by, and still treat me as His beloved child! He only requires me to confess and be sorry for my sins--and in a moment, all is forgiven, all is forgotten, and forgotten forever! Then He is "abundant in mercy." The providences of God are often dark and mysterious! "Your way is in the sea--and Your path is in the great waters. Your footsteps may not be known." Psalm 77:19 The providences of God are often dark and mysterious. It is not easy to ascertain why the Lord acts as He does--or to find out the precise object which He has in view. He carries on His work according to His eternal and pre-ordained plan--and He accomplishes His purposes often by the most unlikely means. He works all things after the counsel of His own will--and He works leisurely, having no cause to hurry. We are naturally hasty, and want to know what God means at once. But He says, "Be still. Wait. Watch. Let patience have her perfect work." We may not be able to account for our trials, troubles, losses, and crosses--but all will be made plain by-and-by. "Jesus said to him: You do not understand now what I am doing--but you will understand later on." John 13:7 We now know in part--but...

A Tragic Repetition We have seen such a tragic repetition of it in our own days. "With their silver and gold they make idols for themselves to their own destruction!" Hosea 8:4 Sad indeed is the above passage--and the more so, because we have seen such a tragic repetition of it in our own days. Oh what earthly-mindedness, what indulging of the flesh, what sinful extravagance--are now seen among professing Christians today! How practical godliness has waned; how the denying of self has disappeared; how covetousness, pleasure and worldliness now possess the great majority of those calling themselves the people of God. Yet as great as the sin of the people is--far greater is that of most of the preachers, who, instead of warning, admonishing, rebuking, and setting before their people an example of sobriety and contentment--criminally remain silent upon the crying sins of their hearers, while they themselves encourage the reckless indulgence of worldly lusts.

If God gives Christ, what can he withhold?   Are believers in the valley of tears? Is their dwelling place Bochim and Baca? Well, God's mercy outstretches all their misery! Promises of grace dispel the mental gloom, and bear away the ponderous loads of grief! The soft handkerchief of love wipes off the furrowing tear! An inspired penman begins the glorious sentence with an unanswerable question. "If God spared not his own Son, but delivered him up to the death for us all, how shall he not also with him give us all things?" (Romans 8:32) Comfort, then; you sons of sorrow; comfort, my soul! There is more in this verse than can be comprehended! And there is more love in the heart of God, than any language, or idiom of speech, can convey to finite creatures! If, for my sake, he has given his Son, what will he withhold in all the creation? Is his creation—the breath of his mouth—better to him than his eternal, co-eternal Son? The Transfigured Life! "Let the beauty of the LORD our God be upon us!" Psalm 90:17 "Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure." 1 John 3:2-3 God wants our lives to be bright. He wants them to shine like lamps in the darkness. The world needs nothing as much as light — not light blazing in the far-off sky, but light pouring out softly, low down, close to the earth — from human lives which have been kindled at the heart of God. The aim of the gospel of Christ is to make human lives bright with the brightness of God's own holiness. There is a word in one of Paul's letters which puts this truth in the form of an exhortation: "Be transformed by the renewing of your mind." The word "transformed" suggests a change from dulln...

A few people abrade in light of the fact that they have such a great amount to do. Their days are filled from morning to night with bleak, repetitive assignment work. With men it is the endless work of the ranch, the workplace, the store, the shop, the factory. With ladies it is the thousand obligations of the family unit, the care of the home, the tending of youngsters, the fatigued errands of residential life. There are many individuals who think their most prominent impediment in the method for otherworldly development and changed character- - is in the drudgeries to which they are obligated by their condition. They envision that on the off chance that they could be liberated from these and could have relaxation for perusing, for consider, and for cooperation - then they would develop into much more bri...

The sacks will arrive at an end, some time before the fortune is depleted!  "In the event that a well off and powerful lord should open his fortune, and offer men come and bring their sacks, and take as much as they would- - do you figure they would disregard this event of pick up? Definitely not! They would pursue and get sack pack, and never stop. Subsequently does the Lord demonstration toward us with His beauty." Reader! have you enjoyed the presence of Jesus today?  "Abide with us--for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent." Luke 24:29 The presence of Jesus , is the life and the joy of the saints. When we enjoy it--we dread the thought of losing it; and when we have lost it--we cannot rest until we have regained it. That is a gloomy day--in which the presence of Jesus is not enjoyed; and that is a dreary night--when Jesus is absent from us. Divine Care!  The question of God's delicate, immaculate and constant care!  "Providing reason to feel ambiguous about all your care Him- - for He watches over you!" 1 Peter 5:7 Our considerations must be given occasion to feel qualms about our God, or they will demonstrate a weight too overwhelming for us- - they will discourage, befuddle, and make us vomited! WHO is it that tends to us? It is the Lord Almighty- - the high and elevated one who possesses forever, whose name is blessed! It is He whom the heavenly attendants comply, the seraphim revere, and all creation commends! It is the Lord- - who is great to the point, that we have no sufficient origination of His significance! It is He who is so great - that it is outlandish completely to set forward His integrity! It is He who is so magnificent - that no miscreant can see His face and live! It is He who made everything with His Word! It is He who administers everything by His astuteness! I...

Why are those blessed, who hear and obey the Word of God?   "Blessed rather are those who hear the Word of God and obey it." Luke  11:28 The Word must be obeyed--as well as heard. We must not hear it carelessly. Nor must we be hearers only, forgetting it as soon as heard. We are to guard it and keep it--to treasure it in our hearts as a precious possession. We are to believe it and to follow it--then the full blessing will be ours. Why are those blessed, who hear and obey the Word of God? 1. Because the Word of God tells us of the  Savior , speaks pardon and peace, and opens to us God's wondrous way of saving sinners. This can be said of no other book, and no other thing. The  works  of God in nature tell us much--but they do not tell us this. Many books of man are written on these subjects--but they are but man's books after all. 2. What is most needed today! It is my deepening conviction that  what is most needed today  is a wide proclamation of those Scripture truths which are the least acceptable to the flesh. What is needed today , is a scriptural setting forth of the  character of God:    His absolute sovereignty,    His ineffable holiness,    His inflexible justice,    His unchanging veracity. What is needed today , is a scriptural setting forth of the  condition of the natural man:    his total depravity,    his spiritual insensibility,    his inveterate hostility to God,    the fact that he is "condemned already," and    that the wrath of a sin-hating God is even now abiding upon him!
